Hello, wonderful reader! Whether you’ve stumbled upon this page by accident or on purpose, I thank you kindly and encourage you to stick around.
If you’re looking for an unofficial penning pal who loves to write but still has absolutely NO idea what she’s doing, my name’s Annie, and I’m your new best friend. There is no judgement here! I simply aim to romanticise life through writing (hence the name) and meet many wonderful writers and friends along the way! If you’re looking for a sense of belonging in the writing community, something to read in the morning, or a friend who will support your wild writing dreams wholeheartedly, you will feel right at home here!
I’ll share my writing journey with you, some short pieces I’ve written and simply be the friend you can sit with while you have a coffee!
I studied Creative Writing in university, graduating last year, and though a degree (with a capital D) should make me sound qualified, I know I’m no less qualified than someone without one. Writing is subjective and I’m ready to make as many mistakes as it takes to find my own writing voice (while also getting to know a dozen others!).
The idea of a blog has been an itch in the back of my head for some time now. Only after I started getting serious about writing a book did I realise that I had no real writing community to share my struggles and triumphs with! This made writing a very lonely experience. Joining Twitter gave me a chance to meet so many wonderful writers and not only share my writing journey but celebrate theirs, too! What’s more rewarding than achieving your own writing goal? Seeing someone else achieve theirs! My community on Twitter inspired me to finally get off my butt and do what I’ve wanted to do for years:
Start that freaking blog!
So, hello! I’m a twenty-something-year-old living in Australia and writing is my first love. It’s been an eight-year relationship and continues to blossom every day. And who do I have to thank for this growing passion of mine? Fourteen-year-old Annie who wanted to write fan-fiction on Wattpad. From writing about boybands to creating full-length stories about angels, forbidden romances and strong friendships, my writing has certainly evolved in many ways. And after graduating from uni, I finally gained the confidence to start writing a novel of my own which began in December 2021. The process is slow, but since I’m writing for my own enjoyment, I’m in no rush at all. I’m simply enjoying this time and embracing the memories I make before I finish my first draft.
But if I’m not writing, my time is certainly filled with many other things! Aside from working, you’ll most likely find me reading or chatting with my friends over coffee or binging a show I’ve seen a million times before.
Because my bookshelf is mostly divided between romance and fantasy books, I would say these two are my ride-or-die genres (but it is a goal of mine to read more non-fiction!). Two of my favourite fantasy series are The Folk of the Air by Holly Black, or the Mirage duology by Somaiya Daud! And if love is in the air more than usual, my go-to romance books are The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, or It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey.
Anybody who knows me will know that my two biggest obsessions are, and most likely will remain to be, coffee and Howl’s Moving Castle! Any excuse for coffee, I’m there. Nothing brings me greater joy than waking up and savouring the cool brew of an iced vanilla latte. (It’s the little things for me.) I’ve also probably watched Howl’s Moving Castle more times than I care to admit. My room is decorated in its beautiful art, and one of my favourite things I own is Howl’s earrings and necklace. I an only dream to write a story as beautiful and wild and magical as that fantastical story.
If you’re still reading, it seems we’re meant to be, and I’d love for you to stick around! Chuck my blog a follow or come say hi on Twitter.
There will always be a place for you here.
